Dorsey Fenner and Rob Campbell created The Wine Guy in 1999, moving to Asheville from Atlanta, where they had been in the wine business for over 15 years as retailer, wholesaler, and restaurant owners. In 2002, they opened a second location on the South side of town which is managed by longtime friend and fellow wine lover Steve Nelson. The two shops offer an ever changing, manageable number of wines from around the world, personally tasted and selected for quality and value. You will find terrific alternatives to the factory wines found in grocery stores, as well as limited production wines from the world's top growing regions and wineries. Craft-brewed beers and a nice selection of wine accessories round out the operation.

Personal service is our specialty, and we take the time to learn your preferences so that you will get the most satisfaction from your wine purchase. We offer regularly scheduled wine tastings and classes to increase your knowledge and enjoyment, and work with the area's top restaurants to present incredible wine dinners, as well.

Saturday Wine Tastings
Up North

Tasting wine is not only fun, but it presents a chance to learn about wine and what it is about a particular wine that you like, or don't like. We have started Free Tastings at the North Store on Saturdays from 2-5 pm, so that you can sip while you shop and find some new favorites. Try it before you buy it!We will usually have a few whites and a few reds open with the occassional guest speaker. Please stop by!




It seems that the challenging economy we have endured for the past year and a half has left almost no one unscathed. It is with great sadness that we announce that The Wine Guy South on Hendersonville Rd. will be closing on April 1, 2010. We would like to thank all of those customers who have supported our efforts there for the past 8 years. In the meantime, Tom Kaylor will continue to operate the South Store, so please stop in and say "Hi"!

Steve Nelson, who has been running the South Store since 2006, is now running the wine, beer and cheese department at Earthfare in South Asheville, and we wish him all the best!
